THANH HOÁ — Thanh Hoá Province People’s Committee plans to give 21,000 students some 1,500 tonnes of rice during the first semester of the 2018-19 academic year.

Students studying at local primary, secondary and high schools in flood-torn areas will receive 15kg of rice per month from the national rice reserve depot.

Torrential rain from August 28 to 31 caused serious flash floods in mountainous districts of Mường Lát, Quan Sơn, Quan Hoá, Bá Thước, Cẩm Thuỷ, Thạch Thành, Vĩnh Lộc and Yên Định.

Mường Lát District was among the most affected localities. Landslides destroyed 15 schools and buried learning equipment, badly affecting the studies of hundreds of local kids.

In the last academic year, provincial authorities offered local students more than 2,600 tonnes of rice. — VNS
