HCM CITY— More than 200 scientific reports are being presented by surgeons and experts from 45 hospitals in Việt Nam and abroad at the Việt Nam Scientific Conference of Surgery and Endolaparoscopy that opened on October 5 in HCM City.

The annual event titled “Minimal Invasive Surgery- Utilisation of Treatment” is a forum for Vietnamese doctors to compare notes with their foreign counterparts.

It will feature 38 seminars on various specialities such as orthopaedic surgery, paediatrics, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, and thoracic- vascular surgery.

Surgery and endolaparoscopy have seen a breakthrough in Việt Nam in the past 10 years, Assoc Prof Nguyễn Hoàng Bắc, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Association of Endolaparoscopic Surgeons, said.

More than 90 per cent of hospitals across the country have adopted endolaparoscopy in many specialties, he said.

"Many hospitals have successfully performed organ transplants and the application of robotics in endoscopic techniques have become common in recent years," he said.

"The two-day event is a great opportunity for surgeons and experts in endolaparoscopy to share their recent research outcomes and exchange updates in the field."

The conference is jointly organised by the Vietnam Association of Endolaparoscopic Surgeons and Vietnam Surgery Association. —VNS
