HÀ NỘI — Nearly 900 karaoke bars in the capital have been closed due to fire safety violations, according to Hà Nội’s Fire Department.
Most businesses were in the suburban districts of Chương Mỹ, Đông Anh, Phúc Thọ, Sóc Sơn and Mê Linh.
In the inner city, Đống Đa District topped the list with 40 violations, followed by Hai Bà Trưng District with 28 and Hoàn Kiếm with 12.
Hà Nội’s People’s Committee had instructed the Fire Department to work with related agencies to conduct safety checks at all karaoke bars in the city.
In May and July, the fire service inspected and published a list of high-rise buildings, offices, medical and school facilities that violated fire regulations.
In March, the owner of a karaoke bar in Hà Nội was sentenced to nine years in prison for a fire that killed 13 people just over a year ago. — VNS
