HẢI PHÒNG — Police in northern Hải Phòng City on Monday busted a drug trafficking ring which involved transporting and trading dozens of kilos of drugs.

On Monday morning, the police caught Đặng Văn Kiên, 38, transporting nearly 5kg of a substance suspected to be synthetic narcotics.

Kiên, from Kiến An District, told the police that he was hired by Bùi Thị Thu Trang, 34, who lives in the same district to transport the drugs for VNĐ5 million (US$214).

A search of Trang’s house revealed over 2kg of the same substance, a firearm and five mobile phones.

At the police station, Trang admitted that she was the ringleader of the operation, which bought drugs from northern border provinces and then sold them to “retail agents” in different provinces in the northern region. The ring has managed to trade dozens of kilos of drugs, including heroin and synthetic narcotics.

Kiên often transported the drugs, hidden in a cardboard box, by car. The places and methods of transportation and sale were changed regularly to avoid detection by the authorities. Trang was rarely present for the transactions and conducted operations by phone.

The police are expanding their investigation into the case.
