HÀ NỘI — The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday confirmed that it was looking into the case of a high-level official in Bình Định Province who was awarded a number of promotions in quick succession.

Deputy home affairs minister Nguyễn Trọng Thừa told the media at a ministerial regular press briefing that Bình Định Province was reviewing the process of appointing Nguyễn Đức Hoàng to the office of the municipal foreign affairs department as deputy director.

The home affairs ministry, which is responsible for deciding officials’ appointments, was investigating the case and would announce its conclusion to the press when available, Thừa said.

The fast rise of 32-year-old Hoàng was recently reported by the media and stirred up doubts among the public.

Through his career in the public sector, Hoàng left the State-owned PetroVietnam Securities Incorporated’s HCM City branch in September 2011, and soon after became a member of the Party.

Without having to take an entrance test, Hoàng started working at the Bình Định People’s Procuracy where his father was then chief prosecutor.

He transferred to the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs in April 2014 as head of the international co-operation division, and moved up to become the department’s deputy director just one month later, again, without taking any tests.
