Cần Thơ fines four illegal foreign workers

The Cần Thơ City People’s Committee has fined four Chinese citizens for entering Việt Nam with tourism visas, but then working on a construction site for a waste treatment plant.

CẦN THƠ — The Cần Thơ City People’s Committee has fined four Chinese citizens for entering Việt Nam with tourism visas, but then working on a construction site for a waste treatment plant.

The four, named as Cheng Shi Jian, 53, Cheng Shuang Hu, 32, Yang Zhen, 42 and Tong Xiao Long, 27, are accused of illegally working on the construction site in Trường Xuân Commune, Thới Lai District. Tong Xiao Long worked as a small trader while the three others worked as construction engineers.

Under the decision signed by Võ Thành Thống, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, each of the four people was fined VNĐ20 million (US$880)

The plant where the four people worked belongs to the Cần Thơ rubbish treatment project. The project’s investor is the Everbright International Co Ltd from China. The project started at the end of June this year. VNS
