HÀ NỘI — National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân yesterday hosted a reception for 70 workers who were honoured with the third Nguyễn Đức Cảnh Award, given by the Việt Nam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) to outstanding labourers with excellent ideas, technological solutions and inventions.

The NA leader said that she was impressed with the achievements of the workers who introduced a total of 781 projects, ideas and technological solutions, which generated profits of VNĐ74 trillion (US$3.2 billion).

The labourers are good examples of energy, dynamism and creativeness, as well as the ability to overcome difficulties and contribute to the growth of their companies, she said.

Highlighting that modernisation and industrialisation are key to boosting the country’s development, the top legislator stressed that Vietnamese workers, regardless of their field, should be made aware of the Party’s policies and plans in national development.

Ngân asked trade unions to continue to honour excellent collectives and individuals.

She also pledged that the NA will provide adequate resources to care for labourers, while supervising the implementation of support policies for them, as well as policies related to wages, social insurance and health insurance.

Seventy awardees were honoured at a ceremony held on last night.

The Nguyễn Đức Cảnh Award is given every five years to outstanding workers of businesses who impressed or came up with innovative technological ideas to enhance performance.

Forty-two out of 70 awardees this year come from State-owned enterprises, 27 in private firms while one individual works in a military company.

Fifty-two were blue-collar workers while 19 were engineers, who between them came up with 781 innovative ideas. — VNS
