HCM CITY — The Ministry of Transport has asked the Airport Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to evaluate the feasibility of building a transit station in District 1 to connect to Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City.
The station, which would help reduce traffic congestion at the airport, would link with Thủ Thiêm Tunnel and Long Thành Highway to also serve Long Thành Airport in the future.
The station would have three floors and seven underground floors, with aviation service areas taking up 40 per cent of the space. The rest would be parking areas, with a capacity of up to 827 vehicles.
Nguyễn Thị Bảo Quỳnh, deputy chairman of the project’s investor, Đông Dương Co, Ltd, said the station would reduce traffic congestion at the airport by 20 to 25 per cent.
The station will have check-in desks for all airlines.
Passengers can receive boarding passes and check their luggage check at the stations.
In addition, the station will have restaurants, convenience stores and luggage storage for passengers.
Passengers will travel to the airport by shuttle bus and go through security checks by using a priority lane, thus reducing time at the airport.
Hotels will also link with the transit station.—VNS
