CẦN THƠ — The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on climate change will be held in Cần Thơ City in June 19 and 20 with the participation of 53 ASEM-member countries.
The meeting focuses on dialogues plans to deal with climate change, strengthening co-operation within Asia and Europe, and combining activities to combat climate change with sustainable development goals.
The meeting is one of the most important cross-regional events about climate change, and the only activity organised by Việt Nam during ASEM 2018.
The meeting will also be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Bình Minh and other officials from 53 ASEM members as well as international organisations and leaders from various ministries and departments from 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
The meeting was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Cần Thơ City People’s Committee.
The ASEM Meeting on climate change was proposed by Vietnamese officials during the 2017 ASEM Ministerial Meeting in Myanmar, which was approved by other ASEM members, according to Nguyễn Minh Hằng, head of ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting Việt Nam.
ASEM is an Asian – European dialogue forum to enhance relations and co-operation between its members, focusing on political, economic and social topics. – VNS
