HCM CITY – Nearly 3,000 student volunteers on 18 June attended the opening ceremony of Tiếp Sức Mùa Thi (Examination Assistance Programme) in HCM City to assist candidates sitting the national high school graduation examinations and seeking college admission.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Lê Xuân Dũng, deputy director of the HCM City Student Assistance Centre and head of the programme’s organising board in the city, said the programme would have necessary and effective activities to support students who need assistance.
The organisers have briefed volunteers thoroughly so that they can provide all the help candidates and their relatives need.
The programme involves two phases and around 10,000 volunteers.
In the first, some 4,000 volunteers will assist candidates sitting the high school graduation examination between June 22 and 24.
They will work in groups at 114 examination centres to provide candidates with information related to the exam, resolve emergencies, ensure security at examination centres and help regulate traffic nearby.
In the second phase, between August 1 and 7, 6,000 volunteers will help candidates coming to apply to colleges and universities in the city. University entrance exams were scrapped a few years ago, and admissions are based on high school scores.
They will work in groups at bus stations such as Miền Đông, Miền Tây, An Sương and Chợ Lớn to help students and their family members coming from provinces to find their way to the universities and colleges they want to apply to.
Nguyễn Văn Đẹp, deputy head of the Chợ Lớn Bus Station’s bus regulation centre, said: “We will create the most favourable conditions in terms of security and facilities for student volunteers to do their work.”
The station would also try to meet the travel needs of students and their relatives, he promised.
There will also be volunteer groups at colleges and universities to help candidates complete the application procedures.
The programme, as usual, will provide free accommodation and food for needy candidates.
It is organised by the Việt Nam Student Association’s HCM City chapter, the HCM City Student Assistance Centre, Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper and Thiên Long Group. –VNS
