HCM CITY The HCM City Department of Transport plans to build a road parallel with Cộng Hòa Street in Tân Bình District in an aim to reduce traffic congestion around Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport.

The six-lane road would be 4.3 kilometres long and run parallel with Cộng Hoà Street, extending from Trần Quốc Hoàn Street and connecting to Cộng Hoà Street at a section near Trường Chinh Street.

The road, to be built mostly on military land, is expected to cost more than VNĐ1.4 trillion (US$61.74 million).

The city’s Urban Traffic Management Unit No 1 is working closely with agencies under the Ministry of Defence on the design of the project.

In addition, a new airport terminal with a capacity of 10 million passengers a year will be built on Hoàng Hoa Thám Street in Tân Bình District to ease traffic at and around the country’s busiest airport.

The road will act as an extra access road to the airport terminal, helping to ease traffic congestion on Cộng Hoà Street and the Lăng Cha Cả roundabout.

The city’s Department of Transport has been working on five projects with a total investment of VNĐ1.8 trillion ($79.38 million) to reduce traffic jams around the airport area. — VNS
