HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội will stop operating five bus routes that serve cadres and civil servants travelling from Hà Đông to the centre of the capital from early next month.

Nguyễn Hoàng Hải, director of the Hà Nội Centre for Urban Traffic Management and Operation, said that these bus routes started operating in August 2008 and were meant for cadres and civil servants working for the city’s various departments and sectors. The five bus routes were to serve around 190 people during working days and operated from 6.15am to 7.15am and 5.25pm to 5.35pm at VNĐ200,000 (US$9.3) per month.

However, the routes have proven to be ineffective as many employees don’t leave for work at a fixed time and buses often run empty, Hải said.

As the buses ply only during early mornings and evenings, they are not used by many others people, according to the official.

These routes also have some effect on the centre’s bus operations in the city.

Taking all this into account, the city has decided to stop these bus routes.

Now, cadres and civil servants can buy monthly tickets like other passengers for between VNĐ70,000 and VNĐ140,000 ($3.2-6.5), Hải said. — VNS
