HÀ NỘI — PM Phúc has asked the Ministry of National Defence to cooperate with the ministries of transport and public security and local authorities to re-examine cars and trucks with red number plates – the vehicles assumed to belong to the army – nationwide.

The move was ordered after the local press reported that trucks and trailers with fake red number plates were caught violating traffic regulations, such as driving carelessly or carrying excess cargo, in HCM City and Đồng Nai Province. Drivers of violated vehicles admitted that they counterfeited the number plates with hope of avoiding being checked by traffic police.

The inspection is required to be conducted promptly. Any vehicle found to be using a fake red number plate will be strictly penalised. — VNS
