HÀ NỘI – Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc on Wednesday ordered the Ministry of Public Security (MoPS) to revoke the privilege blue plates of 516 cars owned by private businesses.
Those blue plates in question, beginning with the series 80A and 80B, are supposed to be granted only to State-owned cars of particular organisations and agencies at the central level. Those cars receive traffic priority in certain circumstances.
In an order issued by the Government Office on Wednesday, Prime Minister Phúc asked the MoPS - which is in charge of granting car licence plates - to seriously adhere to the principle of only issuing plates coded 80 to cars owned by certain central units.
The cars in question also have to be bought using money from the State budget.
“Absolutely no car plates coded 80 are to be issued to enterprises in any form,” the PM said.
The MoPS was asked to complete the revocation by June 30, and report the results to PM Phúc.
The PM’s order came following media reports in early February over the appearance of several cars carrying plates coded 80 in the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế. Those cars were later found to be registered under the names of local enterprises, which raised public suspicions over the process of issuing the privileged blue plates.
Phúc asked the MoPS to report on the plate issuance to enterprises between June 1, 2014 and now, which discovered that 516 cars owned by businesses had been wrongly granted the blue plates coded 80. – VNS
