HCM CITY — Two men have been arrested for spreading news against the State on Facebook - the most popular social network in Việt Nam, police announced on Wednesday.

Bùi Hiếu Võ, 55, a resident of Gò Vấp District, is believed to have set up a Facebook account under the name of Hieu Bui in May, 2015 to post false information, provoking unrest and activities disrupting public order, the police said.

He allegedly called for acid and molotov cocktail attacks against Party and State leaders as well as the police force.

Võ later made contact with members of Việt Tân, an overseas anti-State organisation, to exchange information and jointly administer the Hieu Bui Facebook account, police claimed.

The other man, Phan Kim Khánh, 24, of Phú Thọ Province, is said to have set up and run two blogs, three Facebook pages and two Youtube channels on which he uploaded several posts containing false information against the State.

He was arrested in Thái Nguyên Province on Tuesday.

The two men have admitted their wrongdoing, the police said. — VNS
