QUẢNG NINH — A fire was reported inside a ship from Panama anchored at Cái Lân International Container Terminal in Quảng Ninh Province’s Hạ Long City on Tuesday night.

No casualties have been reported. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

Tạ Quang Việt, deputy director of Cái Lân terminal, said the blaze started in one of the bedrooms of the ship MV Iris Express 8908777. The room belonged to chief mechanic Liu De Fang, a Chinese national, but when the fire broke out, nobody was in it.

The crew used waterspouts on the ship to fight the fire. Authorities at Cái Lân terminal also sent a fire prevention and control ship, and the blaze was extinguished in 25 minutes. The loss incurred is being estimated.

Hoàng Văn Hoan, an official from Quảng Ninh port authority, said the 40,000-tonne capacity ship had entered Cái Lân at 11.30pm on Monday.

When the fire broke out, the ship was receiving wood for export to Japan.
