HCM City wants western coach station linked with metro, monorail

The HCM City People’s Committee has instructed the operator of the new Miền Tây (Western) Bus Station to integrate it with other modes of pubic transport.

HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee has instructed the operator of the new Miền Tây (Western) Bus Station to integrate it with other modes of pubic transport.

The station is expected to be linked with the metro line No 3A from Bến Thành to Tân Kiên Station, monorail No 2 from National Highway 50 to Thanh Đa, and bus rapid transit systems.

The new station, in An Phú Tây Commune in Bình Chánh District – it is now in Bình Tân District  should also ensure it moves 50,000 passengers and operates 2,500 buses every day, the city said.

Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), the operator and investor, said it has worked with related departments to draw up a detailed construction plan.

It is collecting public opinion on the detailed plan, and this task is expected to be completed by April.

It has earmarked VNĐ726 billion (US$32.12 million) for acquiring 24.33 hectares for the new bus station.

According to the Bình Chánh District People’s Committee, the compensation for all land will be paid by the third quarter of this year.

The new station will be designed based on transit-oriented development and combine buildings for offices, hotels and commercial centres.

SAMCO on February 8 began construction of Miền Đông (Eastern) Bus Station on 12ha in District 9 and four hectares in Bình Dương Province’s Dĩ An District.

Work on technical infrastructure and the main terminal would start next quarter, SAMCO said.

The VNĐ773.57 billion ($34.22 million) work is expected to be completed by year-end. — VNS
