HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has instructed the Ministry of Finance to provide over 10,400 tonnes of rice from national reserve funds for 12 provinces before the upcoming Tết holiday.
The beneficiaries were provinces of Yên Bái, Cao Bằng, Hà Nam, Tuyên Quang, Thanh Hóa, Lào Cai in the north, Nghệ An, Quảng Trị, Quảng Ngãi in the centre, Ninh Thuận, Đắk Nông and Kon Tum in the Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands).
The PM has asked people’s committees of 12 provinces to take responsibility for collecting figures, receiving and delivering rice promptly to needy residents.
Quảng Ngãi Province residents will be supplied with the largest quantity, around 2,420 tonnes, while Nghệ An, and Quảng Trị follow with 1,766 tonnes and 1,485 tonnes of rice, respectively.
Ninh Thuận Province will be provided with 1,134 tonnes, Thanh Hóa and Cao Bằng with 650 tonnes and 625 tonnes, while Kon Tum and Đắk Nông will have 577 tonnes and 400 tonnes respectively.
Hà Nam Province will be granted 418 tonnes and Yên Bái with 397 tonnes, Tuyên Quang with 310 tonnes and Lào Cai with 247 tonnes.
In November, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs asked provincial authorities to check and count the number of needy households, who will benefit from the nation’s rice assistance programme during the Tết holiday.
Since early 2016, 67,000 tonnes of rice has been delivered to support residents suffering due to flooding and environmental incidents. — VNS
