QUẢNG  NAM A dam at Sông Bung 2 Hydroelectric Plant in the central province of Quảng Nam broke yesterday afternoon, sweeping away two workers, said deputy chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, Phan Việt Cường.

Cường said the province had mobilised search and rescue forces to look for the missing workers right after the incident.

A Lăng Mai, chairman of the People’s  Committee in Nam Giang District where the power plant is located, told the media yesterday evening that he had not received information about loss of life or property damage. He said he and other district leaders were going to the scene of the accident, which is 80km away from the district’s centre.

“In the meantime, the district’s authority bans local residents from going to the scene,” he told the online newspaper zing.vn

The construction of Sông Bung 2 Hydroelectric Plant was started in late 2012. As the fourth largest hydroelectric plant in Quảng Nam province, it has a total capacity of 100MW. It is expected to start power transmission later this year. VNS
