LÂM ĐỒNG — Forest rangers in the Central Highlands’ Lâm Đồng Province caught red-handed a man illegally transporting 21 southern pig-tailed macaques (Macaca nemestrina) yesterday.
Huỳnh Minh Tiền, 22, was nabbed near a local forest in Tam Bố Commune. He admitted he was taking the macaques to Phan Thiết City to sell for profit. The forest rangers found the macaques in poor health.
The southern pig-tail macaque has been listed under Group IIB – the group of endangered species protected under Government Decree No. 32 – issued in 2006.
Local police are investigating the case further. —VNS
