VIENTIANE — Representatives from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation and the Luang Prabang provincial Youth Union met in Luang Prabang province, northern Laos, on August 23 to share experience in youth affairs, job creation and career orientation.
Speaking at the dialogue, Secretary of the Luang Prabang provincial Youth Union Phaivanh Chanthasouk said the province has 63,554 young people aged 15-35 participating in 1,115 youth union organisations.
Identifying young people as a key force in local socio-economic development, the union has focused on programmes to develop vocational skills, improve employability and encourage young people to pursue entrepreneurship. Training programmes cover practical occupations, English proficiency, and artificial intelligence (AI), while preferential loans have been provided to support youth-led household businesses.
Highlighting the effectiveness of international cooperation programmes, Phaivanh Chanthasouk said Luang Prabang has signed seven memoranda of understanding with its sister provinces in Việt Nam. Through these agreements, generations of youth union officials have been sent to Việt Nam for professional and theoretical training, while scholarship programmes have helped disadvantaged students in remote areas continue their education.
At the event, Vietnamese delegates shared experience in education, vocational training, employment, entrepreneurship, digital skills, technology and AI. They proposed that young people from the two countries strengthen cooperation in building a network of young entrepreneurs, organising skills training courses and promoting youth-produced products.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese delegation presented bicycles, bookshelves, notebooks, pens and milk to students at Hùng Vương and Pongsavanh schools in Luang Prabang province.
The dialogue was a practical activity to further consolidate and strengthen the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between the Vietnamese and Lao Parties, States and people, as well as between the younger generations of the two countries. — VNA/VNS
