HCM CITY — The Ministry of Transport is collecting opinions from agencies, organisations, and localities on a plan for connectivity between the existing Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport and the under-construction Long Thành International Airport.

The study is being conducted by the Institute of Transport Strategy and Development under the Ministry of Transport.

According to the Institute, the plan for connectivity between the two airports has not yet been determined.

The institute has proposed five comprehensive transportation connection plans, including two plans for road connection and three others for rail connection.

It proposed direct bus routes and rail services via urban railway lines No. 6, 2, 4, and Thủ Thiêm - Long Thành Railway to connect Tân Sơn Nhất and Long Thành international airports.

It also suggested an expansion of road and railway routes in accordance with the operational phases of Long Thành International Airport.

Earlier, the Ministry of Transport requested the Railway Project Management Board, the Airports Corporation of Việt Nam and the Transport Design Consultancy Corporation, to ensure the connection of the railway stations at Long Thành International Airport.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Long Thành International Airport will be connected by a road system and two railway lines including the North - South high-speed railway route and Thủ Thiêm - Long Thành railway.

In the first phase of construction of Long Thành International Airport, the runway area, Terminal 1, and connecting roads are being built.

The North - South high-speed railway project's pre-feasibility study report is being completed. The project includes a passenger station located between Terminals 1 and 2 in the airport.

Thủ Thiêm - Long Thành railway project’s pre-feasibility study report is also being prepared. The project has two stations, S19 and S20, located between Terminals 3 and 24 in the airport.

The Ministry also asked the Railway Project Management Board, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), and the Transport Design Consultancy Corporation (TEDI) to ensure the connection between the railway stations and Long Thành International Airport, and the construction of railway projects will not affect the structure of the airport. — VNS
