ĐỒNG NAI — The director of a wood company is being investigated after a boiler explosion at his factory killed six people.

Đồng Nai Provincial Police on Friday began prosecution proceedings against Feng Yong, director of Sunrise Wood Trading Production Company.

Chinese national Yong, 39, has been detained pending further investigations for allegedly violating labour safety regulations stipulated in Article 295 of the Penal Code.

Another seven foreigners involved in the case are also banned from leaving Việt Nam as part of the ongoing investigation.

On May 1, an explosion at the company’s factory in Vĩnh Cửu District killed six workers, one Chinese and five Vietnamese.

Five other people sustained serious injuries and have been receiving treatment at Thống Nhất General Hospital in Biên Hòa City.

At the time of the accident, 42 out of the company’s 200 employees were working at the site.

According to Đồng Nai Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, technical issues with the boiler were detected on April 30. The company then contacted the equipment supplier for maintenance.
