Five young students have drowned in two separate incidents while swimming after school hours on Monday, with three dead in Central Highlands province Đắk Lắk and two in northern province Hoà Bình.

HÀ NỘI — Five young students have drowned in two separate incidents while swimming after school hours on Monday, with three dead in Central Highlands province Đắk Lắk and two in northern province Hoà Bình.

According to initial information from Ea Ktur Commune, Cư Kuin District, Đắk Lắk Province, around 11am, four students from Nguyễn Đức Cảnh Primary School, on their way home, took a dive at Việt Đức 4 reservoir area.

While swimming, unfortunately, they entered a deep water area, and three drowned (two students born in 2014, and one in 2015).

One surviving student rushed out to call the adults for help, but the three students were already dead when authorities and nearby residents found them.

Similarly, two young girls (both born in 2013) at a primary school in Nuông Dăm Commune, Kim Bôi District, Hoà Bình, went to play at at a reservoir after school and drowned.

Nearby residents attempted to help but it was too late when they recovered the two kids from the water.

Hoà Bình Province has once again warned of drowning incidents when hot weather arrives and young kids start to go hanging out at rivers, ponds, lakes. — VNS
