KIÊN GIANG — The Coast Guard Region No 4 Command seized 170,000 litres of smuggled diesel from two boats off the south-western coast on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Vũ Đình Ngà of the Kiên Giang Province-based command said officers stopped the locally registered KG 91487 TS and found 145,000 litres of diesel of unknown origin.

The boat’s captain, Phùng Văn Linh, 48, of the province’s Phú Quốc City, and four crew members were on board.

On the same day, another boat, KG 91602 TS, also registered in Kiên Giang, was caught with 25,000 litres also of unknown origin.

Trần Văn Tuấn, 31, and four crew members were on board.

The two captains failed to furnish documents to prove the origin of the consignments.

The Coast Guard brought the boats ashore and handed the case over to Squadron No 422 in Phú Quốc for further investigation. — VNS
