HÀ NỘI - Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính met with exemplary teachers and educational administrators yesterday on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day in 2023, which falls on November 20.
Addressing the meeting, PM Chính extended heartfelt congratulations from General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng to all the teachers present and warm regards and best wishes to teachers nationwide.
The Prime Minister commended, valued, and expressed gratitude for the relentless contributions of the teaching community - a group that consistently upholds a sense of responsibility and passion for their profession. These educators persistently strive to enhance their capabilities, surmount challenges, and, with unwavering dedication, adhere to the mission of nurturing knowledge, skills, experience, ethical values and holistic development in the country's future generations.
Highlighting the vital role of teachers and the entire education and training system, the Prime Minister emphasised their significant contributions to the overall developmental achievements of the country.
In the age of globalisation and the deepening of international integration, particularly amid the Fourth Industrial Revolution, opportunities and advantages abound, but so do new challenges and difficulties. The teaching community, positioned at the core of the mission to raise the next generations, faces these challenges with resilience and plays a crucial role in navigating the complexities of this transformative era.
Implementing the directives of the 13th Party Congress and Resolution No. 29 of the Central Committee, the Prime Minister urged the education sector to persistently, synchronously, and effectively carry out tasks and solutions for fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training.
The primary focus would be on enhancing the quality of education at all levels, guided by the principle of placing students at the centre, with particular attention to fostering moral character and creativity.
To attain these objectives, the Prime Minister underscored the necessity of addressing critical questions: What actions have been and need to be taken for effective and comprehensive innovation in education and training? How should teaching and learning adapt to the new context and situation? How can the integration of 'learning' and 'practice' be realised? What measures can enhance the quality of human resources, boost labour productivity, and improve competitiveness?
The Prime Minister also emphasises the importance of building fundamental knowledge for children and creating conditions for students to develop their individual talents across various subjects. The inquiry extends to the development of school sports to ensure the holistic physical and mental development of children.
Recognising teaching as a noble profession, he underscored the need for an appropriate remuneration policy to instil a sense of security among teachers. This policy should motivate educators to continually strive and contribute to the nation's education, particularly in remote and economically disadvantaged areas.
To address these queries, the Prime Minister called upon the Ministry of Education and Training, along with other relevant ministries, branches and localities, to intensify their focus and attention on the cause of education and training. In particular, there was a need to comprehensively and practically review the efforts towards fundamental innovation in education and training as outlined in Resolution No. 29 of the Central Committee.
The Prime Minister further urged the mobilisation and effective utilisation of resources for facility investments, with a special emphasis on kitchens, ensuring school health and hygiene, and preventing school violence. The ongoing effort should also be directed towards the continuous construction and development of a positive school culture.
The sector must enhance the competence of educators and staff engaged in education and training by concentrating efforts on scrutinising and refining mechanisms and policies related to recruitment, employment, and remuneration. This strategic focus aimed to ensure that teachers receive salaries commensurate with their dedication, with particular attention given to preschool teachers and those serving in remote and challenging areas, as well as those instructing in physically demanding and hazardous occupations.
The PM expresses the hope and belief that every teacher would persistently serve as a shining example, combining the cultivation of virtue with the practice of talent, demonstrating love for their profession and people. The call was to continuously engage in self-study, knowledge accumulation, and professional development, adopting a dynamic approach that leverages science and technology while introducing innovative methods in teaching and learning. The ultimate aim would be to make every class truly meaningful and interesting, ensuring that each school day becomes genuinely joyous.
Taking this opportunity, he appealed to organisations and individuals both domestically and internationally, urging everyone, every household, and every parent to collaborate with the education and training sector. VNS
