HCM CITY — A Red Cross delegation from the Republic of Korea visited six high schools in HCM City on August 19-21 and met with students there as part of supervision of a three-year project.
The US$1.5 million project funded by the Republic of Korea National Red Cross, “Empowering and Enhancing Skills and Capacity of Việt Nam Red Cross Youth and Volunteers toward Community Resilience in Việt Nam,” is being implemented in HCM City and the provinces of Bắc Ninh and Thái Nguyên since June last year.
It is aimed at strengthening the capacity of youth and Red Cross Society volunteers in disaster and emergency response and community work, Trần Văn Tuấn, deputy president of the Red Cross Society’s HCM City Chapter and director of the project in HCM City, said.
In HCM City, the six high schools to benefit are Hiệp Bình, Thủ Thiêm, Nguyễn Huệ, Phước Long, Đào Sơn Tây, and Nguyễn Văn Tăng, he said.
It also upgrades facilities for reading, painting and physical activities and equipment for clean water.
Training in first aid, firefighting, drowning prevention, and school safety is given to both teachers and students at the schools.
