HCM CITY — In the next three years, some 90 local farmers in HCM City will get opportunities to go abroad to learn and exchange experiences in agricultural product processing, marketing and selling.

The municipal People’s Committee has approved a project to send farmers abroad for training and experience exchange in agricultural product processing, marketing, and selling in foreign markets in the 2023-25 period.

Accordingly, the city plans to send two farmer delegations abroad each year, with each consisting of no more than 18 members.

The proportion of management staff will not exceed 20 per cent of the delegation.

It will give priority to farmers who are developing key products and products under the national “One-Commune-One Product” programme (OCOPs).

The selected farmers who are members of various cooperative groups, start-up businesses, farm owners, and managers working in the agricultural sector will be sent to Japan, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Israel, and Australia.

They are divided into specific production groups and will go to nations with corresponding agricultural production strengths.

The farmers have a large production scale, strong financial ability to expand their operation, and apply new technologies in their work.

They have to commit to participate in the city’s communication and advocacy activities in making urban agriculture modern.

The project is expected to increase the added value of agricultural products via promoting agricultural production and consumption, and connecting supply and consumption.

It will also help to train agricultural human resources to meet the strategic requirements for developing urban agriculture models and promoting international exchange, cooperation and integration in the agriculture sector.

During the learning trip, farmers can expand their international networks and learn about advanced agriculture in other countries. — VNS
