HCM CITY — Cybersecurity industry executives, tech innovators and government officials discussed best practices and innovative solutions for urgent cybersecurity issues at the fifth Vietnam Security Summit held in HCM City on Friday.
The annual conference, with the theme “Data Security: Protecting National Digital Resources” this year, was organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Authority of Information Security and the city People’s Committee.
An expo running concurrently with the conference showcased cutting-edge technologies from more than 40 IT suppliers.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dương Anh Đức, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee, said the city has focused on achieving digital transformation and becoming a smart city.
Information security is a priority in digital transformation.
Besides ensuring compliance with Government regulations on information security, the city regularly organises drills to improve technical capabilities and incident responses.
The Vietnam Security Summit featured in-depth discussions on cybersecurity with professionals from across the industry, and knowledge and experience exchanges and helped seek partnerships, he said.
The topics discussed included data and application security, cloud data security, data theft and fraud prevention solutions, identity and access management, and cybersecurity for critical assets.
Nguyễn Trọng Huấn, presales manager at Kaspersky Vietnam, said 2022 saw an increase in cyber incidents across industries with public facing apps, compromised accounts and malicious email being the key initial attack interfaces.
It was worsened due to a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals and a general lack of security awareness and urgency, he said, adding that a comprehensive cybersecurity framework is crucial in safeguarding organisations and building resiliency against future attacks.
Ngô Minh Nhựt, director of software engineering at OPSWAT Vietnam, said cybersecurity is an essential aspect of the fourth industrial revolution, particularly in critical infrastructure where any cyberattack can cause significant damage to a nation’s economy, security and reputation.
OPSWAT solutions maximise threat detection with advanced multi-scanning technology, which allows for the detection of known malware using multiple anti-virus engines, resulting in a higher detection rate and minimising the risk of false negatives. —VNS
