Six killed in traffic accidents in Phú Yên, Bình Phước

PHÚ YÊN — Six people were killed and many others injured after three separate traffic accidents in Phú Yên and Bình Phước provinces on Monday.

A truck carrying watermelons overturned while driving in An Mỹ Commune in Tuy An District at around 9.30am on Monday, killing at least four, and injuring five who were later sent to Phú Yên General Hospital.

The accident occurred on a sloping road with one side a cliff and the other, the mountain.

By 10:30am, one hour after the accident, the local authorities managed to use specialised equipment and vehicle to rescue those trapped in the truck cabin. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Among the four victims who died, one is a 32-year-old man from Quảng Bình Province and three others aged 40 to 47 are all from Bình Định Province.

Also on the same day, another truck overturned in Eatrol Commune in Sông Hinh District, killing the driver who was identified as a 59-year-old man from M’Drak District of Đắk Lắk Province.

In another case, a motorbike crash occurred in the southern province of Bình Phước killing a 19-year-old man at noon on Monday. The accident also left a father and two of his sons injured, one of whom was severely hurt.

The local authorities are investigating the accidents.

In the first quarter of this year, Việt Nam recorded a total of 2,346 accidents, killing 1,436, severely injured 917 and slightly injured 661.

The numbers decreased 15.1 per cent, 14.3 per cent, 3.2 per cent and 16.8 per cent respectively compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.

On average, there are 26 traffic accidents with 16 deaths and 17 injuries a day in Việt Nam in the three-month period. — VNS
