PHAN THIẾT — The Ministry of Transport plans to build two new airports in Phan Thiết and Quảng Trị provinces, which will help boost socio-economic development in the central region.

It is part of the ministry’s action plan for developing the socio-economy and assuring national defence and security in the north central and central coastal regions until 2030, with a vision towards 2045.

More than 1,500km of expressways are set to be built under the plan until 2030 while nine airports will be upgraded in the region.

The ministry will focus development on seaports with the potential to become special harbours, especially those in the provinces of Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Khánh Hòa, as well as Đà Nẵng City.

The ministry is also looking to renovate the North-South railway line, along with calling for investment in the railway connecting the Central Highlands with border gates.

About 1,400km of North-South Expressway and 40km of Khánh Hòa-Buôn Ma Thuột Highway will be completed by 2025.

The Ministry of Transport will also finalise investment projects of two railway routes, from Hà Nội to Vinh and from HCM City to Nha Trang. In the same time, they will advance the efficiency of sea corridors and routes connecting seaports.

The ministry will prioritise development of railways, waterways and airways to reduce pressures on road transport.
