HÀ NỘI — Based on the average population growth rate in recent years, the General Statistics Office of Việt Nam (GSO) forecasts that by the middle of next month, Việt Nam will officially become one of 15 countries in the world and the third in Southeast Asian with a population of 100 million people.

To mark this memorable event a parade, a conference and a celebration will welcome the birth of the nation's 100 millionth citizen.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has established a task force to prepare for the event, with Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Trần Quốc Phương at the head, and director of the GSO Nguyễn Thị Hương deputising.

Its members will include representatives from different ministries and concerned organisations.

At midnight on April 1, 2022, Việt Nam’s population reached 99.2 million, said the GSO.

The GSO’s leaders said that in the global economic competition, all countries consider human resources to be the most important factor in improving national competitiveness. — VNS
