CẦN THƠ — Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Thursday attended a meeting with voters in Cần Thơ City, discussing their matters of concern ahead of the fourth session of the 15th-tenure National Assembly (NA) next week.
Cần Thơ’s delegation to the NA was in attendance along with nearly 800 voters of the city.
Regarding traffic infrastructure of Cần Thơ and in the Mekong Delta region, PM Chính said that the Government has been working on the key projects of Cần Thơ Airport, Cái Cui Port, as well as expressways that connect to intra-provincial and regional routes.
The aim is to build a comprehensive and modern traffic system. However, this requires a long process of development and investment.
The Government also issued resolutions and formed a national steering committee on key projects in traffic and infrastructure, headed by the PM.
Responding to a recommendation to preserve and promote the cultural identities of ethnic minorities, in particular, the language and writing of the Southern Khmer, PM Chính said this has always been a priority and is included in the education law and official documents.
Localities and ethnic communities are encouraged to study ethnic language courses, which include Khmer.
Acknowledging the difficulties in petrol supplies, the Government has ordered ministries, departments and localities, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade to ensure stability of prices and supplies, while also taking prompt and effective measures to address the issues that arise.
Addressing the voters’ concern about the lack of medical supplies and equipment, PM Chính said that the Government has been issuing guidelines and directions to address the bottlenecks, especially corruption, in bidding for medication and supplies.
Wage reforms for public employees will also be implemented in the near future.
Approved in Resolution No 27-NQ/TW, the policy was expected to take effect on July 1 last year, but was delayed due to the different circumstances caused by COVID-19.
In a move to combat online and mobile scams, the PM on January 6 approved a project on developing the application of population database, e-identification and e-authentication for national digital transformation.
PM Chính said that to achieve the set goals by the end of the year, the Government will focus on the implementation of key tasks and missions, and asked that Cần Thơ voters will join in the effort.
He emphasised that as a city under the direct jurisdiction of the central Government, with a location at the centre of the Mekong Delta region, Cần Thơ has high expectations for growth and success.
In order for Cần Thơ to become a core city of the region and among the group of more developed cities in Asia, it is necessary to have the efforts and determined actions of the whole political system, the people and the businesses, said the PM. — VNS
