HCM CITY — Construction of the two railway projects in the south, namely Biên Hoà (Đồng Nai Province) - Vũng Tàu and Thủ Thiêm, and HCM City - Long Thành International Airport will soon be carried out, according to local authorities.
Deputy Prime Minister Lê Văn Thành requested the Ministry of Transport to work with the People’s Committees of Đồng Nai, Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu provinces, HCM City and relevant ministries on the investment plan for the Biên Hoà-Vũng Tàu railway project and Thủ Thiêm-Long Thành International Airport light railway project.
The 38km Thủ Thiêm-Long Thành International Airport light railway route, starting from Thủ Thiêm Station in Thủ Đức City and going to Long Thành International Airport, has been included in the detailed planning of railways in the focal area of HCM City.
Its total investment is expected to be about VNĐ40.5 trillion (US$1.7 billion).
Meanwhile, the Biên Hoà-Vũng Tàu railway line is 84km long, starting at Trảng Bom Railway Station in Đồng Nai Province and ending at Cái Mép-Thị Vải International Port in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province. Total investment is expected to be more than VNĐ50 trillion.
According to the People’s Committee of Đồng Nai Province, after receiving approval from the Prime Minister, the province will immediately prepare a pre-feasibility study report for the two projects and coordinate with relevant ministries to implement them in sync with the opening of Long Thành International Airport.
The two projects are expected to reduce pressure on road traffic and support economic development of the area. — VNS
