HCM CITY — Construction of the ring road in the Mekong Delta's Cần Thơ City is expected to start in late June or early July, according to Cần Thơ People's Committee.
At a meeting it held on Thursday with the Department of Transport and other related units, Lê Quang Mạnh, secretary of Cần Thơ City's Party Committee, said the project is the city’s most important at the moment, and so authorities would prioritize the project and instruct units to promptly carry out plans so that the work can be started on schedule.
Director of Department of Transport, Lê Tiến Dũng, said his department and related units would make every effort to ensure the work starts in time.
It includes six construction and installation packages and one lighting package.
The total cost is an estimated VNĐ3.84 trillion (US$168.1 million) including VNĐ2.68 trillion for construction and VNĐ829 billion for compensation and resettlement of people whose lands are acquired.
The road will be 19.3km long and pass through five districts: Ô Môn, Bình Thủy, Ninh Kiều, Cái Răng, Phong Điền.
It will link up with national routes No 91 and 61c.
The city's secretary has urged authorities in the five districts to finalise plans for acquiring land, paying compensation and resettling people and submit them to the city government by the end of April.
According to the city People's Committee, when the project is completed, it will help the city’s connectivity with neighbouring province and promote socio-economic development of the delta. — VNS
