TIỀN GIANG — The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Tiền Giang has begun to reopen 100 free water supply sites in coastal areas as the dry season intensifies.

These areas face a shortage of freshwater for household use and irrigation.

The sites are in Gò Công Đông, Gò Công Tây and Tân Phú Đông districts and Gò Công Town.

Gò Công Đông and Tân Phú Đông, which face the severest shortages, have provided a 1,100cu.m of water so far.

Gò Công Đông plans to have 62 water supply sites for 4,000 households.

The sites will provide water until the end of May when the rains begin.

To supply water for household use, the province is also installing more pipes in areas facing shortages.

It is building 25 water pipes to transport tap water from the Đồng Tâm Water Plant in Mỹ Tho City to the eastern coast.

It is also laying 20 pipes to supply water to Tân Phú Đông and upgrading existing pipelines in the district to increase supply.

In recent years, the province has been setting up sites to supply free water during the dry season so that people do not have to buy water at high prices. — VNS
