HCM CITY — Secretary of the HCM City Party’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Nên expressed gratitude to the Ministry of National Defence for their assistance and aid in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at a meeting on October 28, Nên on behalf of the city’s Party’s Committee and people thanked the military forces who participated in setting up field hospitals and implementing a variety of effective measures to control the outbreak in a timely manner.

The dedication of military forces under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence made a great contribution to help the city control the pandemic, he said.

Military forces had been participating in various activities, including delivering medical aid and maintaining security and order, to fulfil the epidemic prevention and control mission, he added.

The pandemic had been brought under control but it was necessary to prepare for an outbreak resurgence. He said he hoped that the military forces would continue to support the city when needed.

General Phan Văn Giang, Minister of National Defence, said the Ministry of National Defence had deployed all means and forces to support HCM City and southern provinces to fight the pandemic.

The ministry ordered the mobilisation of soldiers and self-defence forces to coordinate closely with local authorities in pandemic prevention and control tasks, guarding checkpoints, carrying out food deliveries, maintaining security and order, and performing tasks related to social welfare.

The ministry confirmed that the army was ready to support the city and other localities when needed. —VNS
