HÀ NỘI — The use of e-Government would help fight corruption, push administrative reform and improve the investment environment, said Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

The sluggish building of e-Government will lead to low productivity and backwardness, the PM said at a working session on e-Government building with representatives of several ministries, agencies and the national committee on IT application in building the e-Government in Hà Nội on Monday.

Highlighting the significance of a national database, he said the problem lies with the negligence of some ministries, agencies and localities, not a lack of resources. The leader asked Cabinet members and cities and provinces nationwide to join hands in e-Government building.

Administrative reform should go in tandem with IT application, he said, describing IT as a tool to materialise reform targets.

In that spirit, Phúc agreed with the Government Office’s proposal to establish a national committee on e-Government by revamping the national committee on IT application in building the e-Government which is chaired by the PM.

At the working session, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tiến Dũng reported experience in implementing the e-Government from countries like Estonia, France and Malaysia.

Many delegates agreed that the most important task is to connect data between State agencies, firstly those in the tax, customs and social insurance sectors, explaining that 90,000 wards and communes across the country have set up their own portals.

The Government Office also proposed the Government build a national service portal and implement a one-stop-shop portal. — VNS
