Singapore — Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân has applauded Singaporean businesses’ initiatives to boost co-operation with Việt Nam in urban upgrading, infrastructure, education, resort building, airport connections and agriculture.

Ngân made the remarks at a meeting yesterday with representatives of Singaporean enterprises which are investing in Việt Nam, as part of her official visit to the country.

Singapore is an important partner of Việt Nam, she affirmed, adding that the country is currently the 9th largest trade partner and third biggest foreign investor of Việt Nam.

The top legislator said domestic and foreign direct investment businesses drive Việt Nam’s economic growth, improve its national competitiveness and renovate its growth model.

As Việt Nam and Singapore still hold huge potential for co-operation, the Vietnamese NA pledges to promulgate preferential policies for foreign investors, including those from Singapore, she said.

The legislature will urge the Prime Minister to order ministries, sectors and localities to tackle issues raised by Singaporean enterprises, helping promote trade and business ties between the two countries, Ngân affirmed.

On behalf of the Singaporean business delegation, Wong Kan Seng, Chairman of Ascendas-Singbridge Corporation, welcomed the NA delegation and congratulated Việt Nam on its successful hosting of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week in Đà Nẵng.

Earlier, NA Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân and the delegation laid flowers in tribute to President Hồ Chí Minh at his statute in the Asian Civilisation Museum. — VNS
