HÀ NỘI — Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lê Hoài Trung paid an official visit to Venezuela from June 23-24, reaffirming Việt Nam’s commitment to deepening its traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership with the South American nation.

During the visit, Trung met with Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez Gomez, General Secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace Diosdado Cabello, and held talks with Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto.

He also joined Vice President Calixto Ortega and Minister of Foreign Trade Johann Alvarez at the Việt Nam-Venezuela Business Forum.

In addition, he paid tribute at the National Pantheon and laid a wreath at the monument to Venezuelan national liberation hero Simon Bolivar.

The minister also offered flowers at the Hồ Chí Minh Monument and together with Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto, inaugurated the new headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Caracas.

At meetings with Venezuelan officials, Trung conveyed the greetings and best wishes from General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Central Committee and State President Tô Lâm and other senior Vietnamese leaders to Acting President Delcy Rodriguez and Venezuela’s leadership.

He also briefed the hosts on key outcomes of the CPV's 14th National Congress and Việt Nam’s recent socio-economic achievements.

The Vietnamese minister reaffirmed that Việt Nam highly values its traditional friendship and Comprehensive Partnership with Venezuela - an important partner with significant potential in South America.

He also reiterated Việt Nam’s consistent support for Venezuela’s constitutional government and its efforts to promote national development and improve the well-being of its people.

Trung noted that bilateral ties have continued to develop positively, building on the strong foundation laid by late President Hugo Chavez and generations of leaders from both countries.

He stressed that the visit reflected Việt Nam’s determination and wish to further strengthen political trust and expand substantive cooperation in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both nations.

For their part, Venezuelan leaders welcomed Trung’s first visit to the country in his capacity as foreign minister.

They recalled their positive impressions of previous visits to Việt Nam and expressed admiration for Việt Nam’s achievements in national renewal, socio-economic development and growing international standing.

The Venezuelan Acting President and other leaders voiced confidence that the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Việt Nam headed by General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm, would continue to reap important successes in the country’s new development era.

They also thanked Việt Nam for its support and reaffirmed that Venezuela considers Việt Nam a strategic and important partner in the region and globally.

The two sides agreed to convene the third session of the Việt Nam-Venezuela Intergovernmental Committee in Caracas in October and to maintain regular political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

They also pledged to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, agricultural trade, telecommunications, oil and gas, and energy, while continuing close coordination and mutual support at the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement and other international organisations.

They also reached consensus on a bilateral agenda for 2026-30 covering politics-diplomacy, security and defence, agriculture and food security, energy and oil and gas, trade and investment, telecommunications and technology, healthcare, culture, education, sports, and environmental cooperation.

The two foreign ministries will work together to develop an action plan aimed at delivering practical results ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Việt Nam-Venezuela Comprehensive Partnership in 2027. — VNA/VNS
