HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary Tô Lâm has called on elected National Assembly deputies to swiftly turn voters’ trust into concrete actions, legislative outputs, effective oversight and practical decisions that drive national development.

He made the remarks at the nationwide conference reviewing the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term on Tuesday.

Representatives of the National Election Council presented a comprehensive report on the election process, highlighting both achievements and areas for improvement. Delegates engaged in active discussions, offering substantive and practical insights on organising elections across different levels and locations.

Addressing the conference, Party General Secretary Tô Lâm praised the success of the recent elections, particularly the broad, responsible and confident participation of voters nationwide.

“The quality, structure and representativeness of elected deputies have continued to improve,” he said. “Preparations were carried out early and systematically from the central to the grassroots levels. Technology application during the electoral process has seen significant improvements, while political security and social order were maintained throughout the elections.”

General Secretary Lâm highlighted five key lessons from the election results. First is the importance of unified, consistent and continuous leadership, alongside the responsibility of the entire political system in ensuring successful elections.

“Practice shows that where Party committees provide close leadership, authorities act decisively and forces coordinate effectively, election work is conducted in a disciplined, lawful and efficient manner,” he said.

He emphasised that the quality of deputies determines the effectiveness of the National Assembly and People’s Councils. Every step of the electoral process, from consultations, nominations, vetting and candidate listing to voter meetings, voting and vote counting, must be transparent, rigorous and objective.

General Secretary Lâm emphasised that people must be at the centre of the entire electoral process. The record-high voter turnout was driven not only by effective organisation, but also by voters feeling respected, well-informed and empowered to exercise their rights.

Early voting in special areas demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that no voter is excluded from the country’s democratic process, offering an important lesson in inclusiveness and the protection of people’s electoral rights regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.

He also noted that communication and public outreach must stay ahead, with strong innovation in both content and methods. In a rapidly evolving digital media landscape, official information that is not delivered in a timely, clear and accessible manner allows misinformation to fill the gaps.

The recent election showed that combining grassroots communication with digital platforms, population data and diverse media channels significantly strengthens outreach and builds public consensus.

Building on the success of the March 15 elections, the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils of the 2026-31 term must embody renewal, action, effectiveness and close connection with the people, creating new momentum for rapid and sustainable national development, said Party leader Lâm.

National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn affirmed that the entire political system, including the NA, Government, the Việt Nam Fatherland Front and Party committees and authorities at all levels, will thoroughly implement the General Secretary’s directives.

He called on all sectors and levels to promptly complete the remaining post-election tasks.

The National Election Council will finalise its comprehensive report on the election results and the certification of deputies’ eligibility for submission at the upcoming first session of the 16th National Assembly, scheduled for April 6.

“While we are pleased with the election results, this is only an initial step that strengthens our confidence in building and consolidating socialist democracy,” said the top legislator.

“In the time ahead, the tasks facing the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels are substantial and important, requiring immediate action. The first and foremost task is the successful organisation of the first session of the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels, along with the development of concrete action programmes for the entire term.” VNS
