Poland has officially introduced its honorary consul office in Đà Nẵng this year, with the new headquarters of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Poland in the city set to open. Piotr Frieske, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Đà Nẵng, told Việt Nam News the establishment aims to strengthen co-operation in industry, the economy and culture between the two countries, while building closer links between central Việt Nam and Europe.
Can you brief progress on the co-operation between Poland and Đà Nẵng City?
Relations between Poland and Đà Nẵng have been developing steadily in recent years, grounded in the long-standing friendship between our two nations. This year is especially meaningful as Poland and Việt Nam celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, a milestone that reflects mutual trust, respect and enduring people-to-people connections. Many Vietnamese, including residents of central Việt Nam, studied or worked in Poland and now form a living bridge of goodwill and co-operation. We have also seen growing interest from Polish companies and institutions in Việt Nam’s central region, particularly in tourism, education and technology.
Why did Poland set up a Consulate Office in Đà Nẵng? Which fields can Poland boost trade, investment, tourism and education co-operation with the city?
The opening of the Consulate Office in Đà Nẵng underscores Poland’s recognition of the city’s economic vitality and strategic role in central Việt Nam. Đà Nẵng serves as a gateway to the region, with strong infrastructure, a dynamic business environment and a reputation as one of the country’s most liveable cities. Establishing a stronger presence here allows Poland to provide more direct support for Polish citizens and enterprises, strengthen cultural and educational exchanges and promote co-operation in trade, investment and innovation.
Can you guess the future growth of the two sides?
Poland and Đà Nẵng can expand collaboration in several promising areas, including trade and investment. Polish companies are interested, amongst others, in agri-food, IT, manufacturing, renewable energy, environmental technologies and smart city solutions – all sectors aligned with Đà Nẵng’s development priorities.
Đà Nẵng’s forward-looking initiatives, including its Free Trade Zone and International Financial Centre, align well with Poland’s technological strengths and European business experience.
In tourism: As interest in Asia grows among Polish travellers, Đà Nẵng’s beaches, hospitality and cultural heritage make it an attractive destination.
In education: Partnerships between Polish and Vietnamese universities can deepen academic exchanges, scholarship programmes and research co-operation, giving students access to European education and experience.

Do you have any recommendations for better and closer ties between Poland, Đà Nẵng and central Việt Nam?
As we mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, I am confident that cooperation between Poland, Đà Nẵng and the central region of Việt Nam will continue to grow stronger. There are excellent opportunities to build new partnerships based on shared interests and mutual benefit.
To further strengthen these ties, I actively encourage increased direct contact between Polish and Vietnamese institutions – universities, business associations and local authorities – and the organisation of more cultural and business exchange activities. These person-to-person connections are the foundation of lasting friendship and co-operation.
The new Consulate Office in Đà Nẵng will serve as a bridge for exactly that purpose – connecting people, ideas and opportunities between Poland and central Việt Nam. VNS
