HÀ NỘI — General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Central Committee Tô Lâm and his spouse will pay an official visit to Bulgaria from October 22-24.
The visit will be made at the invitation of Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Bulgaria was among the first countries in the world to establish diplomatic ties with Việt Nam, doing so in 1950.
Over the decades, the two countries have maintained strong political relations, regularly exchanging delegations and conducting periodic bilateral cooperation mechanisms. They have also supported each other at international forums such as the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and as partners within the ASEAN–EU strategic framework.
Economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Việt Nam and Bulgaria has maintained positive growth, while collaboration in science and technology has expanded. The two sides have established a joint committee on science and technology cooperation, focusing on biotechnology, agriculture, information and communications technology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and green energy.
During his State visit to Bulgaria, General Secretary Tô Lâm will hold talks with President Rumen Radev, and meet with the Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and leaders of major Bulgarian political parties.
He will also attend the inauguration ceremony of a statue of President Hồ Chí Minh at the compound of the Vietnamese Embassy in Sofia, as well as other important external activities. — VNA/VNS
