HÀ NỘI — On March 12, Goethe Institute will hold a concert featuring piano soloist Boris Schonleber, who presented several concerts at the venue in 2014.

The German pianist will play two of the most popular pieces by German composer Robert Schumann – Fantasie op. 17 and Kreisleriana op. 16.

Fantasie is a passionate piece which revolves around the mental torments that Schumann suffered in his mid-twenties: he had just confessed his love to his future wife Clara when her father – who was also Schumann’s piano teacher – tried to end the budding romance. His fear of losing his beloved drove the composer to depression.

The pianist will also perform other pieces by German composer Richard Wagner.

Together with mezzo soprano Katharina Padrok and tenor Sebastian Myrus, Schonleber will also perform parts of the Italian songbook by Austrian composer Hugo Wolf.

A piano soloist and chamber musician, Schonleber studied in Berlin and later received his Performers Diploma in London. He has played in many European and Asian countries.

The free admission concert will start at 8pm. Goethe Institute is at 56-58 Nguyễn Thái Học Street. — VNS
