Best press photos honoured

The awards ceremony was held at the International Conference Centre, Hà Nội, on June 12, by Nhà Báo & Công Luận (Journalists & Public Opinions) newspaper under the direction of Vietnam Journalists’ Association.

 

Photo entitled Những Người Chiến Sỹ Của Nhân Dân (People’s Soldiers) by a photojournalist from Tổ Quốc (Fatherland) e-newspaper won the top prize of the Press Moments 2019 photo contest. 

HÀ NỘI — The photo capturing the moment that two Vietnamese police officers stopped a boy from biting his tongue during a seizure at a football match won the top prize of the Press Moments 2019 photo contest.

The awards ceremony was held at the International Conference Centre, Hà Nội, on June 12, by Nhà Báo & Công Luận (Journalists & Public Opinions) newspaper under the direction of Việt Nam Journalists’ Association.

According to Hồ Quang Lợi, vice president of Vietnam Journalists’ Association, the photo contest saw the participation of photographers from press agencies nationwide, with pictures that truly reflect reality, showcasing new perspectives and humanity in all aspects of life and society.

The entries featured many events that attracted great public attention in 2019 such as the fire at a light bulb warehouse in Hà Nội, the fight against plastic waste and the clean water crisis.

One of the highlights of this year’s contest was the much-improved quality of single photo entries.

“The Press Moments 2019 photo contest continues to affirm the important and indispensable position of journalism that has always required creativity, dedication and enthusiasm in Việt Nam’s revolutionary press,” said Lợi.

The award honoured the 17 best photographers and works. Specifically, the organising board selected the top 10 Press Moments 2019 and presented an impressive prize, an A prize, two B prizes and three C prizes.

According to the awards committee, these are works with new perspectives and vivid expressions, clearly depicting all aspects of the country's political, economic and social life in the past year.

The awarding ceremony is part of the Press Gala 2020 organised by Việt Nam Journalists’ Association, aiming to celebrate the 95th anniversary of Việt Nam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21).

“The press gala is where journalists and press agencies meet, exchange and review their professional activities, identify the opportunities and challenges of the press in the current situation, aiming towards sustainable development in the future,” said Lợi.

The highest award was presented to Nguyễn Tiến Anh Tuấn from Tổ Quốc (Fatherland) e-newspaper for his photo taken at Thiên Trường Stadium in the northern province of Nam Định on August 4.

Entitled Những Người Chiến Sỹ Của Nhân Dân (People’s Soldiers), the photo captured the moment a child who watched the football match with his parents and showed signs of a seizure, biting his tongue.

Two Vietnamese police officers immediately appeared and took the kid to the ambulance. One of them put his fingers into the boy’s mouth to prevent him from biting his own tongue.

The A award was handed to photo collection entitled Cuộc Chiến Chống Rác Thải Nhựa Đại Dương (The Fight Against Plastic Waste on the Ocean) by Nguyễn Tất Sơn and Đặng Thanh Hòa from Vietnam News Agency. — VNS
