HCM City kicks off tourism stimulus programme

The HCM City Department of Tourism yesterday kicked off a tourism stimulus programme with discounts of 10-50 per cent on local tours, hotel bookings, city attractions, and cuisine services.

HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Tourism yesterday kicked off a tourism stimulus programme with discounts of 10-50 per cent on local tours, hotel bookings, city attractions, and cuisine services.

The programme, to run until the end of next year, has eight different city tours, including around the downtown and to Cần Giờ and Củ Chi districts at prices of VNĐ400,000-2.2 million (US$17-94).  

Cruises on the Sài Gòn River and Nhiêu Lộc-Thị Nghè Canal, hop on-hop off bus tour and tours to the Mekong Delta are also discounted by at least 15 per cent.

The Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company will offer discounts of 20-40 per cent on all railway fares.

Participating hotels are offering 10-15 per cent discounts on rooms.

More than 60 tour operators, travel firms, hotels and restaurants in the city have registered to participate, Nguyễn Thị Ánh Hoa, deputy director of the city’s Department of Tourism, said.

The department hopes more firms would join the programme to promote tourism development in the city, she said.

In the first 11 months of the year the city welcomed more than 6.7 million international visitors, up 19.6 per cent year-on-year.

Tourism revenues are estimated at VNĐ 125 trillion ($5.35 billion), a year-on-year increase of 20 per cent.

The city targets 8.5 million visitors next year. —VNS
