HCM CITY — The HCM City-based Yeah1 Corporation has signed a contract with Japanese Entertainment Group, AKS, to form a 48-member girl band.

Yeah 1 and AKS will select girls for the SGO48 (Sài Gòn 48) band, a Vietnamese version of the popular Japanese girl band AKB48, which now actually has more than a hundred members.

They will offer training in vocals, dance and performance skills, and will invite music producers, composers and singers to work with the young contestants.

The producers will produce TV reality shows and organise live concerts in major cities in the country.

The producers hope that after training, SGO48 will become more professional and produce albums in different styles that meet the tastes of young audiences.

AKB48, which began its career in 2005, now has more than 130 members aged from early teens to mid-twenties, selected from several hundred candidates across Japan by their producer, famous songwriter Asushi Akimoto.

The band often recruits members who study music, dance, composing, and performance. English and Japanese language skills are also included.

The band, which has performed in cities in Japan and other Asian countries, has local versions in Indonesia, Thailand, India, China and the Philippines.

The selective round for SGO48 will begin next week.

The band will make its debut in the Christmas season.— VNS
