HÀ NỘI — Popular Vietnamese fairy tales are set to be told in an unusual way through music.

Singer and composer Nguyễn Thanh Minh is poised to release a collection of 10 songs inspired by fairy tales.

The Fairy Tale Concert will be held on February 2 to raise funds for the album Cổ Tích (Fairy Tale).

The concert will take place at 8.30pm at Hanoi Rock City, 27/52 Tô Ngọc Vân Street, Tây Hồ District, Hà Nội, with tickets costing VNĐ100,000-120,000 (US$5-6).

The event will gather young singers such as Nguyễn Thanh Minh, Dũng Joon and his band Recycle, The Voice singing contest candidate Hoàng Dũng and the band Sweepy.

The artists will perform demo songs from Cổ Tích and other songs inspired by folk culture.

“The concert will bring you tranquil, peaceful moments with fairy tales that never get old, and for a while you can forget the hustle and bustle of daily life and dive into the music,” said Minh.

“Like many others, I grew up with lullabies and fairy tales,” said Minh.

“I have had love and passion for folk songs since my childhood. With the album, I want to revive the fine value of traditional culture.”

Through familiar stories such as ‘hobgoblin’ and ‘frog sues god for drought,’ Minh composed the songs and shared his philosophy.

He made a unique combination between traditional instrumental music and electronic, jazz and rock.

The project for the album Cổ Tích is in its fundraising stage. The artist and his crew from Katana Records called audience to pre-order the album so it can be launched.

“Facing the pressure of production expenses, we decide to co-operate with Fundstart, a Việt Nam-based crowdfunding platform, to call the audience to help,” said Nguyễn Việt Hùng, a representative of Katana Records.

“Music lovers and anyone that wants to support Minh can join hands to make a financial contribution to the project,” he said.

“Crowdfunding has become a familiar option for young artists when they start their projects. With it, artists can avoid risky investments because they know how the audiences receive and support their products before launching.”

“With crowdfunding, audiences become a part of the project. They can follow the production process and own the album and add-on artworks.” — VNS
