HÀ NỘI — The 9th Wallonie-Bruxelles Film Week will open in Hà Nội on October 23, before bringing award-winning films and animated works to HCM City and Huế.
The programme features seven films spanning social drama, comedy and animation, offering diverse perspectives on life, family relationships, the desire for freedom and the search for identity.
A highlight is On Vous Croit (We Believe You), which received a Special Mention in the Perspectives section at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in 2025.
The film follows a single mother who must confront her children’s abusive father in court as he challenges her custody. It explores child custody and child protection through an emotionally resonant lens.
Directed by Vanja d’Alcantara, Cap Farewell follows a young woman’s journey to mend family relationships and overcome past traumas.
Meanwhile, Les Baronnes (The Baronesses) offers a warm, humorous story about friendship, solidarity and older women pursuing their dreams.
For young audiences and families, the programme features three poetic animated shorts – The Eagle and the Kinglet, The Princess and the Nightingale and The Sparrows – conveying messages about freedom, courage and the beauty of the natural world.
The festival will run at the National Cinema Centre, 87 Láng Hạ Street, Hà Nội, from October 23 to 26, and DCiné Bến Thành, 6 Mạc Đĩnh Chi Street, HCM City, from October 25 to 28.
In Huế, screenings will take place on October 27 and 28 at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Huế University, 39 Nguyễn Huệ Street.
All films will be screened in their original languages with Vietnamese and English subtitles. Admission is free.
Through stories rooted in everyday life and humanistic values, the ninth Wallonie-Bruxelles Film Week aims to enrich Việt Nam’s cultural life and promote exchange and mutual understanding between Vietnamese audiences and Belgium’s French-speaking community. — VNS
