 HÀ NỘI — A festival of light involving a combination of flying drones and giant lanterns will be held for the first time in Lạng Sơn Province, treating people to works of modern technology and traditional crafts from September 19 to 20.

Entitled Border Light Festival, the event marks the first of this kind in the province and will be held in Lạng Sơn City centre and connected to a cultural space in Hùng Vương Street.

Organisers said it is part of a plan to realise cultural development policies, while introducing a completely new nighttime tourism product to the public. The long-term goal is to build a regional-level festival brand, boost commerce and services, and attract overnight visitors.

The highlight will be the light show on opening night, in which hundreds of drones will light up the night sky with an artistic performance on September 19. Synchronised with music and storytelling narration, they will form lively scenes showcasing the local culture and people, offering a captivating experience.

Festivities will continue with a lantern parade, which will begin at the Hùng Vương Street stage and go through Kỳ Cùng Bridge to the city centre, returning to the start point via Đông Kinh Bridge.

The parade will include eight giant lanterns along with many others from local wards and businesses. They will be accompanied by residents in the traditional costumes of ethnic groups and street performances, all of which will help build a celebratory atmosphere.

An exhibition of lanterns alongside the parade will be on display with the theme of History and Modern Creativity, immersing attendees in sparkling light. Attendees will also have the opportunity to make lanterns under the guide of renowned artisans.

Over the two days of the festival, a 'Glittering Night in the Lạng Region' experience will serve visitors the best dishes from Lạng Sơn and surrounding localities.

Folk games and street performances will also provide entertainment.

A seminar on the development of Việt Nam-China border tourism will be held to showcase the expansion of the Lạng Sơn - Guangxi tour route. Meanwhile, tours of the Lạng Sơn UNESCO Global Geopark will be introduced for visitors in a promotion campaign for the province's eco-tourism.

Finally, a special music and art programme titled 'Bright Moon in the Borderlands' will end the festival on a high note on September 20. — VNS
